Podgorica Airport Car Hire

Budget airline hub — where Ryanair and Wizz Air meet mountain roads.

Podgorica Airport

Your Adventure Starts at Gate 1

Podgorica Airport (TGD) is a small, single-terminal facility that punches well above its weight. Ryanair flies here from London Stansted and Brussels Charleroi. Wizz Air connects Vienna and Dortmund. Seasonal routes fan out to Rome, Paris, Frankfurt, and Budapest. The airport code TGD is a leftover from the city's former name, Titograd — a reminder that Montenegro's capital has reinvented itself more than once.

The terminal sits 12 km south of the city centre, right off the E65 highway that connects the coast to the interior. From the car park, you are 30 minutes from Lake Skadar, 35 from Cetinje, an hour from the coast, and 2.5 hours from Durmitor. No other airport in Montenegro puts you closer to the full spectrum of what this country offers.

Distances from TGD

The airport sits 12 km south of Podgorica on the E65. From the car park:

  • Podgorica centre: 12 km / 15 minutes (taxi roughly EUR 10)
  • Virpazar and Lake Skadar: 30 minutes south
  • Cetinje (former royal capital): 35 minutes into the mountains
  • Budva and the coast: approximately 1 hour through the Sozina tunnel

Who Flies Here

Ryanair from Stansted and Charleroi. Wizz Air from Vienna and Dortmund. Air Serbia to Belgrade. Seasonal charters and additional routes from Rome, Paris, Frankfurt, Ljubljana, and Budapest. Summer timetables expand significantly — check your budget carrier of choice.

The Terminal

TGD is compact and efficient. One terminal, one arrivals hall, a handful of cafes, duty-free, and car hire desks. You clear customs and walk straight to the arrivals meeting point.

The airport won the ACI Europe award for best airport under 1 million passengers — proof that small does not mean substandard.

Collecting Your Car

We meet you in the arrivals hall with a name board. Your car is parked in the terminal lot, not at some off-site compound. Walk from customs to driver's seat in under 10 minutes. No queues, no shuttle, no nonsense. The tank is full, the insurance is confirmed, and the road to Durmitor is calling.
